The Story
The news has moved on from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, but the devastation remains.
It can feel overwhelming, knowing that so many people are still in need. A huge amount of work that needs done. I finally came to the realization that I cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good I can do. That's how the Damasus Project started, focusing on an area that is bite sized.
24236
I have "adopted"a zip code that includes 2, very small ,rural areas - 24236, Taylor Valley and Damascus Virginia.
90% of the people in Taylor Valley are still in temporary housing as I type this on 11/9/24 - that's 43 days since Helene hit the area. Many people in this zip code still do not have running water, cell service or electric.
50+ homes are destroyed/unlivable, many condemned and over 50 are in need of deep repair.
Businesses have been flooded and the economic pulse of this zip code, the tourism from The Virginia Creeper Trail, needs serious work and repair.
90% still in temporary housing.
I know there are many areas in need, but I want to focus on one concentrated area and make a huge impact.
I know a lot of good humans, I hope you'll join me in this project.
How can you help? 3 ways. See below.

Thanks. I love you. I hope you feel it, because I mean it.
